1453 Giovanni’s sister Nicolosia marries Andrea Mantegna.
1459 By this date he has his own house in Venice and is probably working as an independent artist although still helping his father and brother Gentile with some commissions.
1474 Completes portrait of Jörg Fugger using oil painting technique.
1475 Antonello da Messina visits Venice, influencing Bellini especially in regard to his use of oil paint.
1470s Probably travels to Pesaro in connection with a commission, the only journey he ever makes outside the Veneto.
1479 Starts work on a series of scenes from Venetian history in the Doge’s Palace. Continued to contribute to this cycle (now destroyed) for four decades.
1506 Dürer is in Venice and writes that Giovanni Bellini is the only Venetian artist to treat him in a friendly manner.
1516 Dies in Venice.
