1620 The son of a painter, he is baptised in Dordrecht.
1639 First signed and dated works.
1651 or 2 Travelled up the Rhine into Germany. Many of the sketches he made during this journey were used as the basis for later works.
1658 Marries Cornelia Boschman, a wealthy widow. Cuyp’s artistic output dwindles after his marriage as his other responsibilities increase.
1672 Becomes an elder of the Reformed Church.
1673 Appointed as a member of the High Court of South Holland.
1691 Dies in Dordrecht.
